Enhance the Way You Look and Feel
Breast Augmentation
The reasons for seeking breast augmentation vary from person to person. Some women hope to increase the size of the bust, achieve symmetric proportion of both breasts, or perhaps enhance fullness after pregnancy, weight loss, or mammoplasty. Our leading surgeon, Thomas F. Mitts, M.D., will carefully take your cosmetic goals and particular needs into account. His mission is to deliver maximum results for ideal candidates through a specifically tailored treatment plan. At our Central California practice, we strive to treat every patient as the unique individual they are.
About the Procedure
Commonly referred to as breast enlargement, this exceedingly popular form of cosmetic surgery involves the use of breast implants. Dr. Mitts is well-versed in the procedure, boasting decades of experience and a vast number of satisfied patients whose self-esteem has improved with the augmentation of the breasts.
The planning stage is certainly critical for breast augmentation. Before surgery, you will work together with Dr. Mitts to design a treatment plan that suits your body type and aesthetic goals. Your treatment plan will include the size, shape, and type of breast implant that Dr. Mitts will place. Patients may choose between saline and silicone implants (both are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration). Your treatment plan will also specify the technique Dr. Mitts will use in the operating room, including the location of the incision and placement of the implant. Incisions are discreetly made in the crease beneath the breast, at the edge of the areola, in the armpit, or in the navel; implants are then placed either in front of or behind the breast muscle.
Based on his decades of experience, Dr. Mitts can recommend the approach he thinks will work best for you and your needs. The surgery itself lasts one to two hours.
While complete recovery requires four to six weeks, you may resume certain exercise regimes in less than three weeks. Our team will regularly check in with you during this healing period through follow-up appointments and phone calls, all to ensure everything goes smoothly from start to finish.
Are You an Ideal Candidate?
The ideal time to disclose your desired aesthetic goals and treatment needs is during a breast augmentation consultation. This is also the stage at which our experienced surgeon will determine whether you are indeed an ideal candidate for the procedure, or if another option may be more appropriate for you. Therefore, your complete medical history must be provided.
Strong candidates are fully developed women in good overall physical and mental health. They should relate to one or more of the following statements:
- I want to enlarge my breasts.
- My breasts appear to be noticeably different in size from one another.
- I feel self-conscious while wearing form-fitting apparel.
- My breasts have changed over the years in regards to firmness, shape, or size.
It is also important to have realistic expectations about the breast augmentation procedure, as well as comprehensive knowledge about the benefits and risks. For some, breast implant revision or breast lift surgery may be a more appropriate course of treatment to consider.
